Do you just need a break away from the hustle and bustle? A few days in enchanting surroundings with space to breathe, away from the crowds, to slow down and appreciate the beauty in simple things such as flowers, birds and farm animals.

If you have a partner, perhaps it’s hard to find time for each other. Make time, reconnect, strengthen the bond and create fond memories.

Take a short break at the delightful English Cherry Tree Manor, which is a comfortable 1930s 2-storey home in 5 acres of glorious gardens, secluded spaces, abundant wildlife and farm animals to feed.

You have a choice of optional onsite and nearby offsite activities; no tiring long drives. See the activities lists below.

There are bikes to rent at the property where you can cycle to Hamilton Gardens 10 minutes away and then on from there along the Waikato river trails, stopping at a café and other points of interest such as the museum, a lively market, an intimate garden, Confinement and whatever else serendipity throws your way.

Perhaps try an evening (approx. 6-9pm) kayak up a creek draped in glow-worms.


Or walk to the Blue Spring or along a crystal clear stream to the tallest waterfall in the North Island. Afterwards, take a private hot mineral spa and even a massage or beauty treatment.

The retreat is close to Hamilton. The cost per couple is $169 per night. Included in the price is breakfast, help with planning and booking your onsite and offsite activities (see list).


Choose your activities many of which are 5 min by car or 10 mins by bike. Bikes can be hired from the property for $50 per person per day.

Optional onsite activities

  • Swim in heated pool (heating is seasonal).
  • Soak in hot tub.
  • Swing in the hammock in gazebo by stream and pond.
  • Feed the animals.
  • Wander the garden and take photos.
  • Play table tennis.
  • Play pool.

Optional offsite activities

Visit Hamilton Gardens
(International Garden of the Year 2014) by bike or car (5 mins by car or 10min by bike). Cycle hire from the property: $40 per person per day.
Gardens are free.
Walk along a crystal-clear stream to the North Island’s longest waterfall. 45min walk each way. 45 mins drive to the start of the walk. Free.
Have fun with Confinement, a team-building game where the group must solve a variety of puzzles to escape a locked room within 60 minutes. Highly-rated. $29 per person. Minimum of 2 and a max of 8.
Take a horse-riding lesson 1-hour (5 mins by car or 10 min by bike) $70 per person
Partake of a high tea and tour at a newly built Edwardian manor-3pm Sunday only – Allow 1 hour at the property. (5 mins by car or 10-15min by bike) $35 per person
Cycle ride along Waikato river stopping at a café and other points of interest (museum, art gallery, lively market, intimate garden, Confinement (see below), Riff Raff statue). The trail starts at Hamilton gardens. Free.
Walk to the Blue Spring. The walk is 15-30min each way depending on how far you want to go. It is 45 mins drive to the start of the walk. Free.
Indulge in a private hot mineral spa ($19 per person for 30 mins), massage (from $50 for 30 min Swedish back massage) or beauty treatment (many treatments such as $40 for 30 min manicure or pedicure). 30 mins drive on route to the waterfall walk described above.
Pick your own fruit/visit lavender farm – There are 2 options. (4-5 mins by car or 10-15min by bike) Nominal entry fee and cost of fruit.
Engage in an evening kayak, floating down a tree-covered glow-worm-draped canyon. $99 per person. Time varies during year (approx. 6-9pm). (35 mins by car)

Book the accommodation first and we will contact you regarding activities. If your accommodation booking is dependent on the availability of certain activities, please contact us first.
Planning a reasonable schedule takes some local knowledge. Therefore, we will discuss with you what you want to do and we will come back with a suggested itinerary. If you are happy with the suggestion, we will then make the bookings for you.

English Cherry Tree Manor Stay at English Cherry Tree Manor, host to the 2017 Waikato Cherry Festival. Explore this beautiful property without the crowds and let serenity and love wash all through you. Admire the beauty of nature, find intimate spaces such as the hammock in the gazebo by the stream and pond, really unwind and take photos for future fond recollections.

The manor you stay at is a spacious 2-storey 1930s house. Note that the ensuites for each bedroom is
currently going through council resource consent and, so, it is currently unknown whether they will be ready by the time of the retreat. Otherwise, there are several bathrooms to share.
